The Romanov Palace in Georgia, known as the Palace in Likani, will become a Museum — located in Borjomi Palace complex is open to tourists after restoration.
The former residence of the Romanov family, located in the resort town in the South of Georgia to the state Partnership Fund for a term of 25 years. During this time, will be the restoration of a unique historical monument. It is expected that restoration work will be completed within three years.
Previously considered options for the transfer at the Republican Palace in long-term use of the private investor and the creation of a hotel complex on the basis of the Palace, but soon the Georgian government abandoned such ideas in order to preserve the unique cultural heritage in its original form and to provide the necessary level of funding for the reconstruction.
The Romanov Palace in Borjomi was built by the banks of the Kura river for Grand Duke Nicholas Mikhailovich by order of the Emperor of the Russian Empire in 1895. The project of the Palace was designed by the famous architect Leonti Benois. The complex is a beautiful Villa built in the Moorish style.
In Soviet times the manor was used as a place of resort of the first persons of the country, often stopped here to rest, Joseph Stalin. After Georgia gained independence, there were large government meeting, also the Palace complex in Borjomi was used as the summer residence of the President.
After completion of the reconstruction of the Palace of the Romanov family will be part of a tourist complex with hotel «Borjomi Rixos» also there will be a variety of events.
