200 million euros are planned to be invested in the Beskid tunnel in the Carpathian mountains
Beskyd railway tunnel in the Carpathians will be reconstructed.
The cost of works on reconstruction and modernization will be more than 200 million euros, said the Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Oleksandr Vilkul on the Forum of transport infrastructure said, reports the portal UNN.
Implementation of the reconstruction project will allow to solve the problem of the narrow and dangerous section of the existing tunnel.
Rreconstruction work will be carried out with the participation of the EIB and the EBRD.
Reference: railway single-track tunnel takes the second place by the length of the railway tunnels of Ukraine. It is located in the Carpathian mountains between stations skotars'ke and Beskidy mountains, and is part of Lviv Railways. Beskydy tunnel is part of the 5th pan-European transport corridor (Russia-Ukraine-Slovakia-Hungary-Slovenia-Italy).
During the second world war the tunnel was damaged by the Nazis, but was later restored in just 2 years and began operating in full in 1946-m to year.
The time of construction of the Beskydy railway tunnel – 1886 (during the Austro-Hungarian Empire under Emperor Franz Josef I). The tunnel is 1750 meters.
