Tourists will be limited access to Santorini
In connection with high popularity of the Greek island of Santorini, the authorities impose restrictions on visits of this site by tourists.
Now daily on the shores of Santorini will be able to land not more than 8,000 passengers per day — now the number of tourists coming ashore from the sides of cruise ships, often as high as 10,000 people per day.
According to statistics, last year the island welcomed around 790000 people — they all arrived on cruise ships. Just in the past year to the shores of Santorini approached more than 600 large cruise ships, and during peak season (May-October 2015) daily carcass took 4 cruise liner, with which about 90% of passengers go ashore for recreation, entertainment, self-study sights, excursions. These figures were deemed threatening to the ecology and economy of Santorini.
Greek authorities hope that the introduction of restrictions on Santorini tourists to help the island make cruise ships more efficiently, distributing the amount of travellers more evenly.
It is also reported that in 2016 the system will work in Lite mode, because almost all cruise lines have already made a timetable for the current year, but with the 2017 requirements and restrictions will operate in hard mode.
