ICAO does not recognize the airspace of Crimea by the Russian

ICAO

As representatives of ICAO, the international civil aviation organization does not recognize the control of the Russian airspace over the Crimean Peninsula.

ICAO also advised that to make decisions concerning air navigation services in the Simferopol flight information can only be Ukraine.

However, as emphasized in the Organization, Russian Federation has no legal grounds to intervene in the work of the organs of air traffic service of Ukraine and the seizure of the airspace of Crimea.

Also Ukraerorukh, national air navigation services provider of Ukraine announced the capture of radio-frequency spectrum of the Ukrainian state by the Russian managers, and their misuse of the emergency frequency of 121.5 MHz. Also, the press service of Ukraerorukh announced the unauthorized release of representatives of the dispatch service of the Russian Federation on the radio at the operating frequencies of the Dnipropetrovsk and Odessa sectors.

ICAO also encourages the carriers to avoid flying over the territory of Crimea due to the security situation, and for transit flights to use alternate routes.

As previously reported, EUROCONTROL, combining the dispatch centers of Europe and Turkey, said he would withhold approval of flight plans to and from the airports of Sevastopol and Simferopol, as recognized control over the Crimean airspace and airports are solely for Ukraine.
