Flights with a dog — what you need to know
Many tourists do not want to part with their Pets for the holidays, so take them on a journey that involves extra hassle and expense of air travel.
In the summer tourist season 2016 the cost of transportation of dogs in aircraft has increased in all airlines, some airlines have increased the fares for this service four times. Some airlines allow flight with the dog in the cabin if the weight does not exceed eight kilograms, but if the pet weighs 8 to 23 pounds, it must fly in the Luggage compartment in a special container. The minimum cost of transportation of large dogs in the cargo hold will be from 2000 rubles.
Please note: guide dogs are transported in the cabin free of charge in the presence of all relevant documents.
What you need for travel with a dog:
For registration of air travel with a dog the passenger must send a request to the airline at least 72 hours prior to departure. Carriage of animals in aircraft — this is an additional service and must be booked separately. When leaving a request to an airline, be sure to specify detailed information about the animal — its appearance, weight and dimensions of the container and the total weight carrying together with your pet.
Before check-in must contact the veterinary control Service at the airport, which should hold a veterinary inspection of the four-legged passenger. Will also require the presentation of a certificate and animal passport. After completing all formalities, you will be given a boarding pass for your dog and will supply a veterinary certificate printing.
If you are traveling with a dog on an international flight, you will need to first obtain a veterinary certificate (validity of the document is not more than three days) and a certificate which confirms the lack of exported animal's breeding value. If the pet is a guide dog, he can fly with his owner in the cabin, regardless of weight and size, but in this case, you must meet certain conditions:
- a guide dog in the cabin must be muzzled
- pet during flight are only allowed near the place of its owner
- the owner of a guide dog, you must provide proof of disability and, as a consequence, the need for maintenance of a special pet

For Russia and the CIS:
- veterinary international passport with marks on all vaccinations and antiparasitic treatments (all treatments must be completed at least 30 days but not more than 12 months before the date of the flight)
- veterinary certificate No. 1-vet
- help on chipping dogs
For international flights more:
- veterinary certificate of international standard
- certificate of the breeding value of the transported pet
Please note:
- on the territory of some countries, including Italy, Spain, Sweden and Denmark banned the importation of fighting dogs
- animals imported into the UK and Iceland, have at least six months in quarantine
- the EU banned the import kittens and puppies younger than 4 months
